Gwyn Gould

Gwyn is Professor of Cell Biology at the University of Strathclyde’s Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences where his research group studies aspects of insulin action and Type-2 diabetes. He was born and raised in the South Wales valleys and was educated in one of the first Comprehensive schools followed by a period in tertiary college. He then went to University to read for a BSc in Biochemistry followed by a PhD in Biophysics (both at the University of Southampton). Like many biological scientists, he then spent a three-year research period in the USA, in his case at Dartmouth College in New England, before moving to Glasgow in 1989 where he has been ever since. He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of research and pedagogy, particularly in the Higher Education sector, and is a strong advocate for education as a force for change
